Answers to a few common questions before we meet

I’m based in Kailua-Kona and photograph sessions along the west side of the Big Island, including at resorts in Kona, Waikoloa, and the Kohala Coast. For a change of scenery, I also offer sessions among the lush greenery of Kaloko rainforest. I’ll help you choose a location that fits the look you love, your group, and the best light for your session.r.

I love photographing in the warm light leading up to sunset. We’ll usually start before golden hour so we have time for a variety of photos as the light changes. Sunset times shift throughout the year, so I’ll recommend a start time based on your date and location. Early morning is another beautiful option if it works better for your family or plans.

Absolutely. Tell me the look you’re drawn to—beach, lava coastline, resort grounds, or lush greenery—and where you’re staying. I’ll suggest a location that works for your group and the time of day, then share the details before your session.

Coordinate your colors without matching exactly. I love solid colors—bright pinks and oranges can look beautiful at sunset, as do whites and soft neutrals. Long, flowing dresses and skirts are my favorite for beach sessions because they move so beautifully in the breeze. For men and boys, I recommend linen shirts and linen shorts or pants.

Beach sessions are barefoot, and we often shoot at the water’s edge, so choose pants you’re comfortable getting wet. If you’d rather stay dry, linen shorts are a great choice.

Please arrive in the outfits you’ll be photographed in and leave extra belongings in the car. Skip hats and sunglasses, and keep phones and keys out of your pockets. If you need to bring anything with you, one small bag we can set on the beach is perfect.

Island weather can change quickly, and rain in one area doesn’t always mean rain at your session location. I’ll keep an eye on the forecast as your date gets closer. If the weather looks like it will affect our photos, we’ll talk through the options together, whether that means adjusting the time, choosing another location, or finding another available date.

Try not to worry about what your weather app says. The Big Island has many microclimates, so a general forecast often doesn’t reflect what’s happening at our specific location. Trust me to keep an eye on the conditions and help make the best call for your session.

Your edited photos will be delivered within two weeks in a private online gallery. I’ll email you the gallery link and download PIN so you can view, download, and share your favorites with family and friends.

Often, yes! I photograph at resorts along the west side of the Big Island. Each property has its own photography rules, so let me know where you’re staying and I’ll help confirm what’s possible before we choose our location.

That’s completely okay! I’ll guide the kids, give them room to move and play, and look for the moments when their personalities come through. There’s no need to ask them to smile or look at the camera over and over—it can make them feel stressed, and I’ve got that part covered.

Your job is to relax, enjoy being together, and keep smiling toward the camera when I ask. Sometimes the best photo happens just as your child looks up, and I want you to be ready in that moment too!

You’re welcome to bring a lollipop or favorite treat for them to enjoy after the session.

Yes! Your online gallery has an optional shop where you can order prints, canvas, and other photo products. There’s no obligation to purchase anything—you can simply download your included photos and enjoy them however you’d like.

That’s completely normal. I’m used to working with teens and will give them simple direction so they don’t have to figure out how to pose. We’ll keep things relaxed, try a few different looks, and give them time to settle in. You don’t need to coach them from the sidelines—I’ll help them feel comfortable and capture photos that look like them.
